New Spot! Shibuya Sky in Tokyo

It is located on the top of the building named “SHIBUYA Scramble Square” built in Nov 2019,  230 meters high in Shibuya which is an attractive city where you can find the world famous “crossing”, a lot of shops and restaurants, and it never stops changing.

There are 3 zones:

  1. SKY GATE
  2. SKY STAGE
  3. SKY GALLERY

You can go to all of them if you have a ticket for Shibuya SKY.

A Ticket for Shibuya Sky

How to Buy a Ticket?

On the 14th floor of Shibuya Scramble Square, you can buy a ticket. You can also purchase them online: in English, [Webket] Tickets for Shibuya SKY

I recommend you to do it online in advance to make sure you get a ticket for the time you desire, and with a bit cheaper price unless you just decide to go suddenly.

What time is the best to go to Shibuya Sky?

In my opinion, for any view from a high spot, you should go before sunset. You can experience a daytime view, sunset view, and night view then! The ticket is only for getting in, there is no time limit to leave from Shibuya SKY (as of Dec 2021).

Their theme is “A path to opening your senses” for this area.

Elevator

Once you show your ticket at the entrance on the 14th floor, you need to walk to get to the elevator. Once the door closes, there is an AR panel on the ceiling displaying a short presentation while you ride to the top, which reminds me of One Word Observatory in NYC to go up to the 45th floor.

Locker

You need to put your belongings into a locker (you need a coin of 100yen, refundable) since they say “No large luggage”. I brought my small purse, but still i needed to put them in. *Details below (end of this article)

Escalator

Once you go through the entrance to outside, you will be amazed by the view. But not yet, you need to go up one more level to the rooftop “Sky Stage” by escalator.

Shibuya Sky : Sky Stage

Sky Stage - Shibuya Sky, Tokyo, Japan

The concept : A stage flung open to the sky

Arriving at the rooftop : top of the building, it feels very refreshing and amazing with a panoramic view of Tokyo! You can walk around close to the glass, artificial grass where the helicopter pad is, or sitting on a Hammock is also nice though it is difficult to get a seat since it’s popular.

You can find SKY TREE, Tokyo Tower, Mt. Fuji, etc., from this vantage point.

Shibuya Sky : Sky Gallery

“An observation gallery that widens your perspective” is the theme here.

On the 45th floor, there are some interesting things using digital tools like “TIME RIVER”, “PARALLEL WINDOWS”, and “DATA SCAPE” that give you an awareness, realization, feeling, throughout visuals.

Although, there is not much space and there were many people in front of those, also sitting down on the bench, and I didn’t feel like waiting for my turn to try it out, to be honest with you. Maybe next time.

Food : Bar & Restaurant

Food, Bar, Restaurant - Shibuya Sky, Tokyo, Japan

Paradise Lounge

Paradise Lounge is a music bar, where the DJ booth and counter are combined. Its interior is designed by British designer Tom Dixon and Design Innovation Team.

They have food and both non alcoholic and alcoholic beverages, so that people can use it for any occasion they want.

Shibuya Sky Souvenir Shop

On the 46th floor, they sell souvenirs including their original goods like “SHIBUYA SKY BEER”, snacks named “SHIBUYA SKY” something, tote bag, T-shirts, coaster, etc. Those are perfect for souvenirs for someone and/or yourself.

Also there is a bathroom close by, just to let you know.

What to Bring?

The sunset view from Shibuya Sky, Tokyo, Japan

Jacket

It’s very windy, and that makes you feel colder than it says since it’s a high place. You should bring your jacket or something like that to keep yourself warm, especially in Autumn to Winter. I recommend you bringing something with zipper (not to be blown away).

*ATTENTION: you can NOT bring a scarf to SKY STAGE.

Cash

As I wrote earlier, you need to put your belongings into a locker. For use of a locker, you need to have a coin (100yen). A coin of 100yen is enough, but if you have a bill of 1000 yen, you can exchange it there by machine. And 100 yen is refundable after use.

A Neck Strap of Camera (if you have a BIG camera)

If your camera is too big to put in your pocket, you need to have a neck strap on your camera.

What Else You Need To Know Before Going

  • No smoking
  • No large luggage
  • No photography nor recording for commercial use
  • No food / beverage to bring
