I’d say that you don’t have to bring something specific, but here are some things that I think it might help.
Shopping Bag
If you would buy and take it home, it’s nice to have a shopping bag. Otherwise you need to buy it. Also one plastic one for garbage is helpful.

Oden : Kamaboko Shop Goto
Kamaboko Shop Goto is a very famous shop in Togoshi Ginza. Many Japanese celebrities have been here.
Kamaboko is a steamed fish cake. Satsuma Age is a fried fish cake.
There are many kinds; squid, quail egg, meatball, cheese, shrimp, gyoza, etc.
We decided to eat in, because we found a good deal!! They also offer take-out.
3 Odens & Soft Drink Set
If you order soft drink set (400yen), you can get 3 Odens (90 yen, or you need to pay extra if you want something over 90 yen) with a glass of juice/tea/cola.
We chose ;

- Konnyaku : 90yen

Curry Bread from Curry Pan Yes!
This shop specializes in Curry Pan (bread).
They have many different kinds of Curry Pan, including one with steak inside! We decided to get the Original Curry Pan.
The outside was very crispy and had a nice crunch/texture! The curry inside was mild but tasty!

Yakitori from Ryuho
Yakitori is skewered chicken on a stick.
Yaki = grill(ed), tori = chicken/bird
They are grilling right in the front of the shop, so I smelled it even before I saw the shop.
We got one Momo (thigh) and one Tokusen (special selection). The chicken itself is very tender,
The sauce is salty not sweet. They say they use garlic and ginger as “secret” ingredients.

Fried chicken from Tori & Deli
Tori & Deli has a lot of things to offer!
We ordered 100g of deep fried chicken thigh. It’s very hot, so make sure to wait not to get yourself burnt. With the first bite, I was impressed how tender + juicy it was!
You can also eat-in there.
Also, it says “English menu available”

Soup dumpling from Ryuuki
Ryuuki is a Chinese restaurant on the street. They are selling soup dumplings in front of their restaurant. As soon as you take the package, you can tell it’s hot!
Very carefully make a small hole and leave it for a bit so that it’s faster to cool down. And sip some soup first. The soup is coming out, and it doesn’t stop!!
There is a small table (standing only) where you can eat their “take-out” food. I’d recommend using it so that you don’t need to keep holding the package with hot dumplings.
The soup inside is so delicious, the meat portion is quite large, and the outside has a nice combination of crispy and the bottom and soft on the top. Honestly, the taste reminds me of the way my grandma used to cook them, so good!!
2 soup dumpling : 270 yen

Shumai from Kyoto Hou Shumai
Kyoto Hou Shumai has been running their restaurant in Kyoto for over 40 years.
This shop was ranked 1st place for “gourmet you want to order” in the magazine called BRUTAS.
We got 2 regular Shumai, which is Chinese food. However this shop is “Kyoto style Shumai” which is one reason why I was interested.
They are using ground pork from Japan, Kujo negi (green onion) from Kyoto, onion from Awaji Shima island.
They also have other kinds; Spicy Shumai and Shumai with vinegar.
You can buy Shumai from 2 pieces!
The portion of pork in this Shumai is so big that the cover cannot be closed!
As an added bonus, the staff at this shop were so kind and personable.
200 yen for 2 pieces

Okonomitaiyaki from Omede Taiyaki
Taiyaki is one of the popular street foods in Japan. The dough is similar to that of a pancake, and usually there is something sweet inside like red bean paste (sweet), custard cream, etc. However, Omede Taiyaki Honpo has a savory/salty flavor.
Tai = Red Snapper, Yaki = cooked
They have
- Original Okonomi Taiyaki
- Hiroshima Style Okonomi Taiyaki
we decided to get Hiroshima style Okonomi Taiyaki, there are Yakisoba noodle, sunny-side up egg, cabbage, pickled ginger , etc. The same as Hiroshima Style Okonomiyaki.
You can enjoy the balance of the sweetness from the dough and the savoriness from the inside ingredients.
This is one unique item you don’t often see elsewhere.

Coffee at Shirokuma Cafe
If you want to sit down and rest, you can go to Shirokuma (Polar bear) Cafe.
One of this cafe’s specialties is soft-serve ice cream. Located near the beginning of the Shoutengai (shopping street), it is a great way to start or end your eating tour!

Japanese Sweets at Tsuzumi Dango
We went to Tsuzumi Dango for sweets! It’s a Japanese confectionary shop from Nagasaki prefecture. They have Dango (rice cake). mochi, etc.
My husband (who is a chocolate lover) got “Choco Daifuku” (the left one on the picture above) and I got “Mitarashi with An” (the right one on the pic).
Chocolate Daifuku has layers of cocoa powder, mochi, whipped cream, and ”nama”(raw) chocolate which is similar to Ganache.
Mitarashi Dango with An (red bean paste) has 2 Dangos on a stick. The An (red beans paste) had very smooth texture which amazed me! Mitarashi is a sauce made with soy sauce, sugar, etc. The Dango is very chewy, and the sauce is thick enough to cover the entire Dango.
