Jiyugaoka, Tokyo
Jiyugaoka – is a nice place to go for shopping and eating at. There are grocery stores, apparel shops, stationary stores, beauty salons, many kinds of restaurants and cafes, etc.
The station itself is in the Meguro-ku, but the neighborhood is mixed with Meguro-ku and Setagaya-ku. Easy to access is also one of good things about Jiyugaoka because it’s located in between Shibuya and Yokohama.
Access to Jiyugaoka
You can get Jiyugaoka station,
- from Shibuya station (Tokyo) or Yokohama station (Kanagawa) via Tokyu Toyoko Line.
- from Oimachi station (Tokyo) or Mizonokuchi station (Kanagawa) via Tokyu Oimachi Line

Nishoan – Japanese Restaurant in Jiyugaoka
Nishoan is a restaurant where you can have a nice Japanese food in Jiyugaoka. As soon as you get here, you can tell the atmosphere is very nice. There are tables and chairs (not Tatami mat), and nice small garden-ish thing.
I had a Tempura Teishoku (Tempura set with rice and miso soup + small plates) for lunch. There are many kinds of Tempura surprisingly!
- White fish (2 kinds)
- Shrimp
- Eggplant
- Pumpkin
- Sweet Potato
- Green Leaves x 2
I feel I forgot something else though, anyway it’s nice to have some tempuras. As you can see, it came with rice, miso soup, some small side dishes (the middle between rice and miso soup is a dipping source for Tempura). It was pretty filling and satisfying!

Kuroge Wagyu Koshizuka – Yakiniku Restaurant
For meat, especially Wagyu lovers, I recommend Kuroge Wagyu Koshizuka in Jiyugaoka. They have Yakiniku restaurants, deli shops, fresh meat & deli shops, Hamburg & Steak restaurants in Tokyo & other locations.
There is a small grill that you can cook meats and veggies by yourself as same as other typical Yakiniku restaurants. My friend and I ordered Karubi, Misuji, Beef Tongue, salad, Bibimbap, etc..
I visited this place for dinner, but their lunch looks very nice.

Flipper’s : Fluffy Soufflé Pancake
If you are looking for or willing to try a fluffy souffle pancake around Jiyugaoka, “Flipper’s” is one of poplar chain restaurants. They have some other locations, but not many. You might feel lost once you get in the building, but it’s upstairs.
There could be a line depending on what time you’d go, I recommend going there off the peak time (lunch, cafe time). It takes time to be served as same as other places for souffle pancake.
They have both savory and sweet toppings on the souffle pancake, and I choose the fruits one. It’s fluffy and it melts in your mouth. I thought the pancake itself is not too sweet, it went well with the cream and fruits!

Kosoan – A Cafe with a Japanese Garden
Do you know there is a cafe with a nice Japanese garden in Jiyugaoka? Walking 10 minutes from Jiyugaoka Station, you will be able to have a matcha with nice Japanese garden view which is called Kosoan.
If you order a drink, it comes with a small snack. I ordered an iced Matcha. The one next to the beverage is Monaka (wafer) + Anko (Red bean paste) inside.

Onibus Coffee – Cafe For Coffee Lovers
Onibus Coffee is located 5 minutes by foot from jiyugaoka station. They have a lot of selections for coffee. You can also get a soy latte, oat milk latte, decaf, etc.
There are some sweets as well, the staff explained each one of sweets in the show case, thankfully. I choose a cheese cake that was good!

Dumbo Donut & Coffee – American Style Doughnut
Dumbo Donut & Coffee is a popular donut shop in Azabu, and they opened a new location in Jiyugaoka! (the picture above was taken at Azabu shop by me).
The shop decor, donuts, beverage cup, etc are cute as many people take pictures. Their donut is American style, both size = huge and taste = sweet! I think 1 donut is big enough for a snack (sharing with someone might be a good idea!), and it goes well with coffee because the donuts are very sweet in my opinion.
