Philadelphia is one of big cities in East Coast. And there are a lot of places which are important in the US history such as a place where US flag was born at, a building where the Declaration of Independence was signed, etc. There are a beautiful city hall, an iconic LOVE sign, a film location of the movie “Rocky”, and so on. Also I would introduce you where to eat Philly foods like cheese steak of course, soft pretzel, and etc!
Where to Go / What to See in Philly?
There are a lot of places to go in Philly! I would love to introduce places to go in Philly.
Visitor Center
First thing comes first, here is a visitor center! If you’d like to get a map or some other info, you can get information and a sightseeing map at Independence Visitor Center.
Philadelphia City Hall
There are a lot of beautiful city halls in the US, and this is one of them in my opinion. It is too tall to take a picture, but you can take a good picture from the crossing at Broad street and Arch street.
One Liberty Observation Deck
If you like to see the city from a high place, this is where to go.
LOVE sculpture at Love Park
LOVE sign is an iconic sculpture in Philadelphia. There is one in NYC, Tokyo as far as I know.
Also there is “AMOR sculpture” nearby too.
Philadelphia Museum of Art
You can see the building after long stars. Also the movie called Rocky was filmed here.
Rocky Statue
Right next to Philadelphia Museum of Art, You can find the Rocky statue due to this movie was filmed here. A lot of people takes a picture that makes a line for that.
Independence Hall
On August 2nd, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was signed here, Independence Hall.
I don’t have much knowledge to talk about US history, so I would cut it off here. Although, if you are interested in it, this place might be very good to visit!
Betsy Ross’s House
This is Betsy Ross’s house where the US flag was born. You can join a tour, unfortunately I didn’t. There is a souvenir shop and you can find a lot of things with the first US flag to bring back home as your gift visiting this historical place.
Elfreth’s Alley
This is a historical alley where 32 old houses are lined up, and where people started living at about 300 years ago under British coronial, and they are national historic landmark. Today, People still lives, and there are also a museum and souvenir shop.
It’s a touristic place but give it respect and enjoy the atmosphere.
Reading Terminal Market
If you love to go to markets, I would recommend you this place! There are a lot of food vendors and shops where not only tourists but also locals visit. I went there in the morning on weekdays, but still there were many people enjoying shopping and/or food. I also enjoyed a cup of coffee, a soft pretzel, and a funnel cake here.
One of good things about this market is that you can enjoy it no matter what kind of weather it is outside, because it’s inside. On rainy days, you can just hang out here 😉
What To Eat in Philly?
In Philadelphia, you can find a lot of Philly specialities.
Cheese Steak
Cheese steak is a soul food for people from Philly. There are 2 famous shops for cheese steak.
- Pat’s King of Steaks
- Geno’s Steaks
I went to Pat’s King of Steaks, and that was really good! Every time i eat a cheese steak, it reminds me of Pat’s and nothing can beat it in my opinion. I miss it so much..!
Soft Pretzel
I absolutely recommend soft pretzels to eat in philly! My favorite place is called “Miller’s Twist” at Reading Terminal Market which I mentioned earlier.
Enjoy Philly!
For me, visiting Philadelphia was a good opportunity to get to know more of events in US history as non-american. I think it should be better to join a tour at each museum and building, but still it was nice to walk around.
Also food is another thing to enjoy, and i did. I would love to visit Philly again, hopefully soon!
