Looking for an easy and family-friendly half-day itinerary in Tokyo?
As a local mom, Futako-Tamagawa is one of my favorite places to visit with my toddler. It combines spacious parks, indoor play areas, family-friendly restaurants, and plenty of facilities for young children—all within walking distance of the station.
Whether you’re visiting Tokyo with kids or living in Japan with a young family, here’s how we like to spend a fun and stress-free morning in Futako-Tamagawa.

Futako-Tamagawa Park
Located within walking distance of Futako-Tamagawa Station, Futako-Tamagawa Park is one of the best family-friendly parks in Tokyo.
The playground equipment is perfect for toddlers, and my son has loved coming here since he was around 18 months old. One of our favorite features is the inclusive sandbox area, where children of different ages and abilities can play together.
The park also features a beautiful Japanese garden, open green spaces, and scenic views along the Tama River.
There is even a Starbucks by the river, making it easy for parents to grab a coffee while enjoying the surroundings.
Why We Love It
This park offers much more than a typical neighborhood playground.
You can enjoy playground equipment, nature, river views, and a Japanese garden all in one place. It’s spacious enough for toddlers to run around safely while still being convenient to reach from central Tokyo.
Local Mom Tips
If you’re heading to the playground and Japanese garden from Futako-Tamagawa Station via the elevated walkway, you’ll need to take an elevator down.
The riverfront area and Starbucks are accessible without changing levels, but the playground area and riverfront are located at different elevations.
If you’re frequently moving between the two areas, using a stroller can be slightly inconvenient.
Public restrooms are available inside the park.
PLAY! PARK ERIC CARLE

PLAY! PARK ERIC CARLE is one of the most unique indoor play spaces in Tokyo.
Inspired by the world of Eric Carle, the creator of *The Very Hungry Caterpillar*, the facility combines active play, creative activities, and imaginative exploration.
Why We Recommend It
This is one of the few indoor play spaces that genuinely works for a wide range of ages.
There is a dedicated baby area for infants, interactive play zones, climbing structures, a maze, and art workshops where children can create their own artwork.
If you’re traveling with multiple children of different ages, this can be an excellent option because everyone can find something they enjoy.
Children under 1 year old can enter for free.
Hungry Market
Even if you don’t purchase admission, you can still visit the gift shop.
Families who love Eric Carle’s books and illustrations will enjoy browsing the merchandise inspired by his colorful world.
Alternative Places to Play
Forest Garden (Takashimaya Rooftop Garden)
This rooftop garden feels surprisingly green and spacious for being located on top of a department store.
For toddlers, it’s a great place to spend around 30 minutes exploring and burning off some energy.
Restrooms and diaper-changing facilities are available inside Takashimaya.
Hyogojima Park
Located along the Tama River, Hyogojima Park is another popular family destination.
Families come here for picnics, river play, and open spaces where children can run freely.
KikiLocal Mom Tip
Bathroom: If your child is potty trained, make sure everyone uses the restroom before heading to the park, as facilities can be limited nearby.
UV: There is very little shade, so bring hats, sunscreen, and plenty of water during warmer months.
Food & Beverage: It’s also a good idea to buy snacks and drinks beforehand and remember to take your trash home with you.
Others: You might need a bug spray, towels, etc.
Lunch at 100 Spoons, Futako Tamagawa
100 Spoons is one of the most family-friendly restaurants in Futako-Tamagawa.
The restaurant was designed with families in mind, making it a comfortable place to enjoy lunch with young children.
Free Baby Food
One of the most impressive features is that handmade baby food is available free of charge.

Menu for Children Ages 1–3
Popular options include:

Local Mom Tips
This restaurant is extremely popular with families.
If you’re visiting on weekends or public holidays, making a reservation is highly recommended.
Even on weekdays, the restaurant can become busy, so I recommend either reserving in advance or arriving right when it opens.
