Yokohama Anpanman Children’s Museum is one of the most popular family attractions near Tokyo for toddlers and young children.
We visited with our toddler during spring, and while it was definitely crowded, there were also many things that made the experience surprisingly smooth and family-friendly.

Who Is Yokohama Anpanman Museum Best For?
Best Age for Visiting
In my opinion, the best age for visiting Yokohama Anpanman Museum is around 2 to 5 years old.
However, age matters less than whether your child actually likes Anpanman.
My son visited:
- The free area at 1.5 years old
- The paid museum area at 2 years old
At 2 years old, he was much more excited about the characters and interactive areas.
How to Buy Tickets
We purchased tickets online in advance.
I highly recommend booking ahead, especially during weekends, holidays, and school vacation seasons.
Even on a weekday morning during spring break season, the museum was already quite crowded.
Access & Transportation Tips
The museum is about a 3-minute walk from Shin-Takashima Station and around a 15-minute walk from Yokohama Station.
If you are coming via the Tokyu Toyoko Line + Minatomirai Line, I recommend getting off at Shin-Takashima Station, especially on rainy days.
If transferring at Yokohama Station feels stressful with kids or strollers, walking directly from Yokohama Station may actually feel easier.
If you plan to visit by car, reserving parking nearby in advance is highly recommended.
Crowds & Timing Tips
We arrived right when the museum opened, but entry still took about 10 minutes because of the crowd.
Luckily, there were many Anpanman characters displayed on the floor along the waiting line, so our toddler enjoyed spotting the characters while we slowly moved forward.
Right after opening, many families headed directly to the Anpanman show area, so that section became crowded quickly.
One thing that surprised me was how busy the museum already felt on a weekday morning during spring break season.
If your child is not very interested in the show, skipping show time can actually be a great strategy because other areas become less crowded.
What We Actually Did
We arrived in the morning, watched our toddler explore the museum area, had lunch before the crowds became too large, checked some shops for souvenirs, and headed home around nap time.
Since our toddler still naps during the day, visiting in the morning worked very well for us.
What My Toddler Loved Most
Minna no Machi Area
My toddler especially loved the “Minna no Machi” area.
Because we visited while it was still relatively uncrowded, he happily explored the small houses and spaces inside the area like he had entered the Anpanman world.
It felt very immersive and toddler-friendly.
Stroller & Family Facilities
There is a stroller parking area, but strollers cannot be brought inside the museum itself.
The museum is also very family-friendly and offers:
- Coin lockers
- Nursing & diaper changing areas
- Formula water machine
- Microwave for warming baby food (inside the Family Station on the 1st floor)
I also liked that some diaper changing areas allow children to stand while changing after removing their shoes.
Food & Restaurant Tips – Free Area
Anpanman Restaurant
I recommend visiting the restaurant shortly after opening because lunchtime becomes extremely crowded.
Inside the restaurant, there are many cute Anpanman character decorations that toddlers will probably enjoy.
Uncle Jam’s Bread Factory
Uncle Jam’s Bread Factory is one of the most popular spots in the museum.
Some bread and merchandise are exclusive to Yokohama Anpanman Museum. For example, the “Meiken Cheese Mascot” item is Yokohama-exclusive.
Food Court Tips
Food options depend on your child’s preferences, so I recommend checking menus online beforehand.
Lunch hours become crowded, so deciding what to eat in advance makes things much smoother.
High chairs are available, but quantities may be limited.
If your child has allergies, checking menus ahead of time is also recommended.
Can You Re-Enter the Museum?
Yes — same-day re-entry is allowed.
However, you need to show your ticket when re-entering, so make sure not to lose it.
Best Photo Spots with Anpanman Characters
Honestly, almost every area inside the museum is cute and colorful.
Giant Anpanman Statue
If you arrive early, it’s easier to take photos before entering the museum.
If you arrive later, taking photos after leaving may be less crowded.
Minna no Machi
This area feels like stepping directly into the Anpanman world and is one of the cutest photo spots inside the museum. There is Anpanman-go (car) too.
Is Yokohama Anpanman Museum Worth It?
For toddlers who love Anpanman, I think the museum is worth visiting.
Because our toddler still needed a nap, we only stayed for a few hours. However, I think families who can stay longer may feel the ticket price is more worthwhile.
For younger babies, I personally think the free area is already enough to enjoy.
The free area still includes:
- Shops
- Food court
- Uncle Jam’s Bread Factory
So even without museum tickets, there are still fun things to see.
Rainy Day Recommendation
I think Yokohama Anpanman Museum is also a great rainy day destination for families.
Again, accessing via Shin-Takashima Station is especially helpful during bad weather because it’s very close.
Nearby, the Nissan Global Headquarters Gallery is also worth visiting for kids who like cars.

Visiting Yokohama Anpanman Museum with a toddler was a fun and memorable experience for our family.
While it can definitely become crowded, the museum is designed very well for young children and families, with thoughtful facilities and interactive spaces throughout.
