Looking for a relaxing day trip from Tokyo with a baby or toddler?
Hayama is one of our favorite places to visit as a family. Compared to nearby destinations like Kamakura or Enoshima, Hayama feels quieter and more relaxed, making it perfect for families with young children.
We’ve visited Hayama with our son since he was a baby, and these are two of our favorite half-day itineraries.
Whether you’re looking for a beach morning, a nature-filled outing, or a relaxing family lunch, Hayama has plenty to offer.
Before You Go to Hayama, Kanagawa
- Recommended Age: 1–5 years old
- Stroller Friendly: Depends on the area
- Budget: $$
- Time Needed: 4-5 hours
Option 1: Morito Area Plan
Half-Day Itinerary
- 8:00 AM — Snack Break at Starbucks
- 9:00 AM — Morito Beach
- 10:30 AM — Morito Shrine
- 11:00 AM — Lunch Around Morito Area
Why We Love This Area
Morito is one of our favorite family-friendly areas in Hayama because everything is within walking distance.
You can spend time at the beach, visit Morito Shrine, stop by local cafés, and enjoy lunch without constantly moving the car or taking multiple bus rides.
The area feels relaxed and easy to explore with young children, making it a great option for families visiting Hayama for the first time.
On clear days, you can enjoy beautiful ocean views while walking between locations.
Snack Break at Starbucks

Our son usually enjoys a small snack between breakfast and lunch.
After a long drive, we often stop at the Starbucks near the exit of the Zuyo Road before heading to the beach.
Depending on how much he ate for breakfast, our 2-year-old usually chooses one of the following:
- Banana
- Yogurt
- Waffle
He also drinks a small amount of milk.
When he was younger, we sometimes brought cereal from home and mixed it with milk as a quick snack before starting our day.
Morito Beach
Morito Beach is one of the most family-friendly beaches in Hayama.
The waves are generally gentle, and the atmosphere is relaxed compared to some larger beaches nearby.
Toddlers can enjoy walking on the sand, collecting shells, and watching boats in the distance.
On clear days, you’ll also have beautiful views of the ocean and nearby mountains.

Breakfast at Blé Doré
Blé Doré is one of the most popular bakeries in Hayama.
Their morning service includes all-you-can-eat bread, making it a fun option for families.
We also like picking up boxed pastries and rusks as souvenirs to take home.
Ohama Beach
Ohama Beach is one of our favorite places to simply relax.
The atmosphere is calm, and it’s a great place to enjoy ocean views without feeling crowded.
Dogs are also welcome, so it’s common to see local families enjoying the beach with their pets.

Local Mom Tips

Bring Sand Toys
If your child enjoys beach play, bringing a few sand toys can make a huge difference.
Even a small bucket and shovel can keep toddlers entertained for a long time.
Parking Can Fill Up Quickly
Parking lots near the beaches become busy on weekends, holidays, and during summer.
Arriving early is highly recommended.
Bring Beach Essentials
I recommend bringing:
- Towels
- Sunscreen
- Bug spray
- Change of clothes
You’ll probably end up needing at least one of them.
A Picnic Blanket or Small Tent Can Be Helpful
If you’re planning to spend extra time at the beach or park, a picnic blanket or compact sunshade tent can make the outing much more comfortable.
Watch Out for Hawks and Kites
Large birds sometimes fly over beaches and parks looking for food.
We generally avoid eating full meals on the beach because food can attract them.
KikiKeep snacks close and don’t leave food unattended.
Final Thoughts
Hayama is one of our favorite destinations for a relaxed family outing.
Whether you choose the Morito Area Plan or the Relaxing Beach Day Plan, you’ll find beautiful ocean views, family-friendly spots, and plenty of opportunities for young children to explore.
If you’re looking for a quieter alternative to Kamakura or Enoshima, Hayama is absolutely worth visiting with a baby or toddler.
