Okonomiyaki Micchan – Popular Restaurant
Micchan is one of most popular Okonomiyaki restaurants in Hiroshima. There is a line in front of the shop before opening hours..! There were 3 groups before us when we arrived there 10 minutes before their opening hour.
Micchan is a nickname of the founder, and he invented

Soba Niku Tamago + topping
The orthodox style is called Soba Niku Tamago.

- Niku = meat
- Tamago = egg
If you’d like, you can add some toppings too. I asked them to add Koune (pork shoulder meat).
Special Okonomiyaki
Special is adding squid and shrimp to the basic Okonomiyaki (Soba Niku Tamago). The combination of meat and seafood is great!

Okonomiyaki Hassho – Famous Restaurant
This is also one of popular Okonomiyaki restaurants. They close their shop once they use up ingredients. We arrived the restaurant 5 minutes before it opened, but we were the 5th group that got to the restaurant.
The menu is very simple.

You can also add some toppings. There are some customers that added Ikaten and green onion. Also, doubled noodle.

Carpe Dori : Yakitori Izakaya
Hiroshima has a local baseball team named Hiroshima Carp. This Izakaya (restaurant + alcohol beverage) is known for the place for fans! There are many autographs, uniforms, pictures, etc at store.
It’s interesting that Yakitori is named with actual player’s name. We ordered,
- 9 sets of Yakitori (best nine)
- Sake-steamed oyster
- Deep fried oysters
I liked their stuffed green pepper, eggplant, and wing. The Hiroshima carp had a game when we visited. We could feel the atmosphere of the fans rooting for their local team!⚾️💓

Chikara : Cheap Eat! Hiroshima born Restaurant
Chikara had started their business in 1935. It is now a chain restaurant in Hiroshima, that has Udon noodle, Chinese noodle, and Wagashi (Japanese confessionary).
I’ve heard that Niku (meat) Udon Noodle is great, so I ordered it for myself. They have a mini size, too which I do appreciate. Also, it was served very quickly that helps if you are in hurry.
Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a lot of Wagashi(s) since we went there at night.. I’d love to try them next time! 🍡

Soba Yukian – Bib Gourmet Restaurant
Soba Yukian is a soba noodle restaurant that got Bib gourmet in Hiroshima city.
They have 3 kinds of Soba noodles, Inaka-soba, Sarashina-soba, their original called Shogen-soba. We had Shogen soba (the left on the pic above) that comes with Tororo (yam), Nori (dried seaweed), and leak + wasabi. And the lunch set with Inaka soba (the right on the pic above), that comes with Tempura, miso soup, rice, etc.
The texture of Soba noodle was very soft and chewy!

Nadukeoya – Great Izakaya
For those who are hungry, and want to eat and drink, Nadukeoya is perfect! They have good Sake, and a lot of Japanese foods that go well with and without drinks!
No English menu available unfortunately, but they are very friendly and nice.
We didn’t mean to eat much, but we ended up eating,
- Obanzai (side dish) 3 kinds ×2
- Shumai ×2
- Sashimi
- Garlic Chicken gizzard Karaage (deep-fried)
- seard Pork shoulder
- Curry
- Squid ink Soumen noodle
We could choose Obanzai from about 10 kinds.
Nadukeoya – Nakamachi

Ruhe Brazil – For Great Deal Breakfast
We have a unique culture called “morning service”, which is, you can get some food + coffee with very cheap price in the morning at cafe/restaurant. There are some theories, however, it’s said that the service “towards customer” was started from this cafe named “Ruhe Brazil” in Hiroshima in 1955 as long as recorded. *it’s said that the morning service “towards employees” was started in Aichi prefecture. But AGAIN, there are some theories..
We got to the cafe a little bit before the opening hour. And there are

Onomichi Roman Coffee – A Cafe in Front Of Hiroshima sta.
Onomichi Roman Coffee is originally from Onomichi, Hiroshima. They make a coffee with syphon which is rare to even see today..☕️ We also get waffles, chocolate waffle (regular size), and waffle with fruits (small size). 🧇
It’s a nice place for breakfast, break time, etc.
It’s on the 6th floor on the Fukuya department store. If you can get the seat on the window, you will have a view of Hiroshima Dentetsu Hiroshima station where the street trains come and go, and river + bridges.
