Kohama island is located in Okinawa, Japan. It’s a very small island as you can look around in a day, however it’s a good travel destination if you want to relax with beautiful ocean and sugar road.
What is Kohama Island?
It’s one of islands located in Yaeyama area. Kohama island became famous after “ Chura san “ which is a drama by NHK ( Japanese National Program ).
An area is 7.84 km², and only 705 people live there. This island is very small as you can go and see around for a couple of hours with bicycle or bike.
Access – How to get there?
We got there from Ishigaki Island by jet boat and it took only 25mins.
Highly recommend to head there from Ishigaki in the morning, enjoy Kohama and then head to Taketomi since you can enjoy enough both Taketomi and Kohama only a day as long as you won’t stay at both island.

Where to go in Kohama Island
Uminchu Park
This park is not too big tho, very peaceful place with children and a goat 💛
This is good place to chill☺️💕
* Uminchu means “fisherman” in Okinawan
Sugar road
This sugar road is such a relaxing place to go through with bicycle 🚲
Haimurubushi – Resort Hotel
We had nice time at Haimurubushi resort, we didn’t stay though.
There is a swing which is my fav💓haha
We also had lunch: Ishigaki beef bowl there 😋
We just spent 3hours there and it’s enough to look around this small peaceful island ☺️🌿🐄🐐
After those, we took a boat to Taketomi Island 🚤💛
